Breaking News -- Elton Brand Opts out of Contract
Elton Brand becomes a Free Agent
In a move that surprised much of the NBA, Elton Brand opted out of his contract with the LA Clippers and has become an unrestricted free agent. After being injured for almost the entire 2007-08 season most people believed Brand would wait till next year to become a free agent.
However, Brand opted out of his contract tonight. With the signing of Jamison in Washington, Brand may be the #2 free agent on the market other than Gilbert Arenas.
From a Jazz perspective their are three angles of interest. First, would the Jazz consider signing Brand in a sign and trade with Carlos Boozer. In past editions of Locked on Sports, Larry H. Miller without using names, that would be tampering, insinuated that the Jazz would look into the possibility. Secondly, the Miami Heat have long sought Brand and if they signed him that would eliminate their interest in Carlos Boozer. Finally, as a Western Conference foe it is worth watching where the Clippers stand.
Should the Jazz look into Brand -- place your thoughts in the comment section.

I think that most would agree that if both are healthy, Brand will give you what Boozer does on offense and gives much better effort on the defensive end (2+ blocks per game). Both have had a history of injuries, although Brand's health is more in doubt as it is uncertain how his body will handle a full regular season and playoffs. There is also the consideration that Boozer opts out of his contract and leaves us next season with nothing in return.
Given all of this, I say roll the dice and try for a sign and trade and hope that Brand is fully recovered. We end up about the same on offense and our interior defense is much improved.
As an added benefit, maybe we can get rid of Hart or Collins in making the money match up. That would also give us more roster spots and thus more flexibility for other off-season moves.

Locke, really liked the segment of the blogsters, lets the listener really kind of let their voice be heard because those are the things all fans are thinking.
Brand is a must if we really think Boozer is gonna get max money from Miami, cause really I don't know if we give max contract to Boozer.

This whole Carlos Boozer situation is so overblown. Elton Brand is a liability, he has been injury prone for most of his Clipper years and I dont see how much more he will bring to the Jazz that Booz allready does. He is undersized, just like Booz. So I ask myself.... Why trade tit for tat. Am I wrong?

Re: Breaking News -- Elton Brand Opts out of Contract
It appears that Brand opted out in order to give the Clippers space to sign another player (Baron Davis?. That being said, I would be dissapointed if Kevin O'Connor was not on the Phone with him or David Faulk (Brand's agent) shortly after 10 PM last night.
Certainly, the Jazz have the pieces to make a sign-and-trade work, and one would have to think that if Elton wants a real shot at a ring, the Jazz's roster is much more suitable to making this happen than the Clipper's.
Its an extreme longshot, but one I hope the Jazz are pursuing, regardless of the likely outcome.

B-way trade:
Jazz get Brand
L.A. gets Beasley
Miami gets Boozer
Jazz get Brand
L.A. gets Beasley
Miami gets Boozer
